Ocho Rios, Jamaica Day 1

I just ended my three day trip at my first stop of the trip, Ocho Rios, Jamaica. It was absolutely beautiful! I came all the way from Mississauga, Ontario and from the Toronto Pearson Airport, it took a total of four hours and five minutes by plane to get to the Montego Bay Airport in Jamaica. The cost of this flight was $431. From there, I had to take a one hour and forty minute taxi ride to Chrisanns Beach Resort in Ocho Rios. The resort was like an apartment and included everything I needed and more, such as a full kitchen, a balcony, a swimming pool, and a car service. The cost was very reasonable at $72 a night. The resort was also located on a private beach, so it wasn’t crowded, which was nice and peaceful. Besides spending a few hours at the beach every night, I also visited other popular attractions.

On my first day here I decided to go on the Ocho Rios Dunns River Jeep Safari. On the five hour tour, I visited Murphy Hill, Fern Gully and Dunn's River Falls. There was an entrance fee of $2.00 to get to the top of the Hill. Murphy Hill had an amazing panoramic view of Ocho Rios and I was almost able to see most of the city from the top of the hill. It also had beautiful plants, flowers, and hills. It was very calming and peaceful.

After the Murphy Hill, the jeep safari drove though the Fern Gully. This attraction is a canyon that is covered in trees and plants. Here I also walked through the numerous trails and admired the visible bodies of water. It was very beautiful. On the ride through the Fern Gully, we stopped to see multiple shacks that sold handmade clothing, jewelry, and statues. Everything was so beautifully made, I just had to pick up a few items!

The last stop of the tour was the Dunns River Falls. I was the most excited for this destination because of how beautiful I heard it to be. The Dunns River Falls is one of Jamaica’s treasures and is also one of its most popular tourist destinations, and I definitely see why. It is absolutely breathtaking. Besides admiring the beauty of the falls, I climbed it and swam in the water as well. The climb up the falls was quite difficult but well worth it. It was so exciting, yet frightening at the same time. Also, it was very refreshing to take a dip into the water. The water was the perfect temperature for the hot Jamaican weather!
